The Hurricane Hunters of the Air Force Reserve

By 1973, they got their request along with the 53rd moved to Keesler Surroundings Force Base in Mississippi.

Within 1975, the Air Force Reserve would activate the 815th Weather Reconnaisance Squadron. Nicknamed the "Storm Trackers, " many combined missions while using the 53rd would earn respect through the entire Armed Forces. In 1991, the 53rd would be deactivated due to budget cuts and the whole mission of hurricane hunting would go to the 815th. The combination of tactical airlift tasks and storm hunting would prove excessive for one squadron, however. The weather squadron cut back the "Hurricane Hunters" along with the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron keeps on the tradition today.

Ex - president Theodore Roosevelt wasnt scheduled for a biplane ride in 1910, but as he told some sort of reporter afterward, "You know, I didnt intend to do it, but when I saw it is important there, I could not necessarily resist it. The first sitting president to decide on the air was the other Roosevelt, FDR, who flew across the Atlantic to meet using Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1943. For that historic meeting he rode within a seaplane, a four-engine Boeing 314 called the Dixie Clipper.

Dorr has been aboard SAM 27000, some sort of Boeing 707-353B, on its final flight from Andrews AFB, Md to San Bernardino, California on September 8, 2001. This famous Air Force One had flown every American president since 1972. That carried Richard Nixon to help China, Jimmy Carter to Germany (to satisfy the Iran hostages when their release) together with George W. Bush to Texas. At San Bernardino this historic aircraft was taken apart and trucked in pieces to Simi Valley, California where it can be now on permanent exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Selection.

Today, a pair of identical Boeing 747s, a unique military version of your familiar passenger plane, wear the imposing presidential livery involving Air Force One. The first of the twins was delivered (15 months late) on the 89th Airlift Wing within August 1990, the second followed in December. The main president to fly inside was George H. W.
